The Hypermobile Body

EDS is more than just a flexible body. As you may already know, it usually includes frequent injuries, mast cell activation syndrome, dysautonomia (POTs), structural abnormalities in the spine, clicking joints, chronic fatugue, anxiety, neurodiversity and much more!

Unfortunately your healthcare provider may not understand what you need and many of your test results may come back "normal". But we are here to help you get the support you need. Whether that means a referral letter to your doctor, we also go through the EDS diagnostic criteria which you can also share with your medical team.

Or you may need support with an exercise plan, nutritional advice, and a thorough assessment which can be done online, and we will create a tailored plan that suits your needs.

What to expect

In your consultation we will go through a diagnostic check list form specifically for EDS, and we will write up a medical letter or summary letter so you can share this with any specialist or if needed for a medical referral. Not everyone with EDS needs referrals, but these can be helpful if you need further investigation.

We will go through some movements together to assess your range of motion, strength, posture and your Beighton score.  Lifestyle questions and questions about how you're feeling will also be used to really understand how EDS is impacting you.

We take the time to truly listen to you with an open heart and mind to really understand what is going on.  After your assessment, we will create a health care plan for you based on your assessment. Which consists of exercises, nutritional advice and much more!

You will also have access to our Skool community which is called The Nervous System Healing Hub.

Jamie's Story

At just 15 years old I had daily back pain. I would cycle to school, I had a part time job, playing high level basketball and looking back not knowing I had EDS this was probably too much for me. However, the biggest issue was that I had gone through a huge trauma at that age, and I didn't tell anyone what had happened.

After working with many hypermobile patients it has become quite clear to see that trauma, stress, and anxiety are quite common in many people who struggle with chronic pain, and even harder when someone has gone through big life events whilst also having a connective tissue disorder.

I have always been told I'm too sensitive, and that I should just get on with things. But it took me turning thirty to realise that actually I've been too resilient for far too long, and actually I needed to be kinder to myself.

Self compassion and taking care of yourself in the right way for you, is really important. But it's not easy when you've lived a life where you're trying to please others, or perhaps you weren't taught how to know what is a good feeling or a bad feeling in your body.  At the end of the day, your body and nervous system is just trying to tell you something.

Some signals we need to listen to, and other signals will need less attention. It has taking me years of therapy, years of body work including chiropractic care, and I am finally at the point of understanding what these signals mean and how to not fear them.

I would love to help you do the same!

Nervous System Regulation

Nervous system regulation is an essential part of healing chronic pain and EDS symptoms. Often people believe that joint instability is the main cause of pain. But it's much more complex than that. Senses has partnered up with the SSP Protocol to help you heal your nervous system in a gentle way.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), created by Dr. Stephen Porges, is a cutting-edge therapy that uses specially filtered music to help reset your nervous system. Think of it as a gentle, non-invasive way to stimulate your vagus nerve.

Emma Clark offers the SSP Protocol online for nervous system regulation - which helps many people feel safer and more comfortable within themselves. Working with people online allows you to feel at ease at home, and she offers affordable prices which works on a rolling monthly membership. Which allows you to avoid the stress of up front larger fees. We have created a exclusive discount code for you when you are already an existing patient.

Chiropractic care also calms the nervous system, as adjustments stimulate the nervous system, however for more chronic cases, having access to a practice at home is a great addition.

Testimonial

"Jamie is an absolutely wonderful chiropractor! I have recently started having weekly sessions with him due to suffering with hEDS amongst other conditions, and I am already feeling the benefits! I leave him feeling relaxed, in less pain, and I can already feel how much more physically mobile I am becoming compared to my very first session.
Jamie has given me so much confidence that I don’t have to continue living in this much pain. He has helped me to understand my body better and is so knowledgeable, understanding, caring and just generally has a wonderful approach.I would highly recommend him to anyone, especially those with all things hyper-mobility!
Thank you so much for getting me onto a slow road of improving and understanding my physical health" - Jess.F.
